Andi Merkins

Andi Merkens is a graduate of the 3 year AUT Graphics and Design Course. For 25 years she worked as a freelance illustrator for the advertising industry in Auckland.

From 1998 to 2002 Andi and her family lived in Rarotonga. She opened “Pacific Art “ ( studio/gallery) where she painted and sold original artwork and limited edition prints depicting life in the islands. Many of her paintings are in private collections throughout the world and hang in resorts in Rarotonga.

On return to New Zealand in 2003, Andi focused on New Zealand landscape- working with acrylic on canvas.

Her most recent works are on recycled materials. She has been experimenting with Iconic logos and  kiwiana advertising in a contemporary style, often re-painting old logos directly onto distressed recycled materials. Andi often incorporates the humble House Sparrow into her work, which has become her signature creating softness in contrast to the harsh reality of iron and raw timber.
